The final round of the 17th“Challenge Cup” National College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest was successfully held online from 26 March, 2022 to 28 March, 2022. The contest was organized by Sichuan University and co-sponsored by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, All-China Students’ Federation, and the People’s Government of Sichuan Province.
After several rounds of university-level and provincial-level competitions, a total of six projects of Jilin University were shortlisted, which won one first prize, four second prizes and one third prize in this year’s “Challenge Cup” Final. Among them, one first prize and one second prize came from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (SMAE).
First Prize: Walking on the guideway-Development of large-stroke stick-slip piezoelectric actuator

Project Description:
Precision driving technology is one of the key technologies of high-end scientific instruments and equipment. The stick-slip piezoelectric actuator is quite effective in realizing large-stroke precision driving. However, the separated mover and stator that most actuators use have made actual stroke subject to the size of the mover, thus restricting the application of the stick-slip piezoelectric actuator. Inspired by the movement of trains along the rail and the motion of skateboarding, the idea of integrating the driving mechanism with the mover is proposed to solve the problem. By making them move along the guideway as a whole, this project realizes the stable output of centimeter-level large stroke, which provides a new angle for the innovative design and development of large-stroke stick-slip piezoelectric actuators and has a wide application prospect.
Second Prize: Integrated air-land fire rescue system of marsupial robot cluster

Project Description:
The “integrated air-land fire rescue system of marsupial robot cluster” is specially designed for large depth, long distance, toxicity and other complex fire environments, such as high-rise building fires and chemical plant explosions. The team is made up of undergraduate students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, School ofMechanical and Aerospace Engineering, College of Communication Engineering, College of Automotive Engineering, College of Electronic Science and Engineering, and School of Business and Management of Jilin University.Since its establishment in 2018, the team has overcome difficulties by finding technical solutions, including sandwich composites, intelligent hose reels, UAV swarm-assisted positioning, clustered three-dimensional fire rescue, obstacle avoidance and cooperative algorithm. The project product has gradually moved from a model to a first-generation machine, to an engineering prototype and then to a mature product which can be used by fire departments. At present, the team has successfully formed a robot cluster. In the cluster, the mother robot with excellent protection boxes serves as the main body and is supplemented by the UAV swarm equipped with a signal amplifier and UWB positioning module and various functional small robots. In the long run, the project team will be committed to creating all kinds of intelligent robots with special functions.
