On 30 October, the 17thDongfeng Nissan Cup “Tsinghua IE Sword” National Industrial Engineering Case Study Competition (Special Competition for Industrial Engineering Innovation Methods of China Innovation Methods Competition) was hosted by the Industrial Engineering Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, the National Graduate Education Steering Committee for Professional Engineering Degree, and the Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University. In the Competition, two teams from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of Jilin University won one national grand prize and one first prize (ranking first), respectively. Specifically, the team (members: Li Qiang, Han Zeping, Zhan Jiang, Li Jialin, and Xi Jialu) won the grand prize in the university category with their entry “Digital Solutions to Electrical Assembly Manufacturing System Featuring Intelligent Manufacturing: Case Study of S Company”, and its total score ranked second among all entries nationwide. Another team (members: Ye Xiaowen, Liu Zhongyi, Bai Yichen, Jiang Yun, and Ma Ruihang) won the first prize in the university category with their entry “Lean Analytics and Improvement Methods of Information Flows on the Production Site”, and its total score ranked fourth among all entries nationwide.
The “Tsinghua IE Sword” National Industrial Engineering Case Study Competition is nowadays the most influential industrial engineering competition in China. It has been held for 17 years, serving as a platform to promote and apply the latest achievements in China’s industrial engineering industry. The Competition enhanced exchanges on the experience of training industrial engineering professionals, tested the development quality of core and professional industrial engineering courses of the participating universities, strengthened students’ ability to systematically analyze and solve problems with their expertise, and improved the training quality of industrial engineering professionals. In addition, it pooled excellent talents in relevant fields and encouraged them to become promoters and leaders in theoretical research and industrial application in the field of industrial engineering.
The 17thCompetition received a total of 251 cases from renowned enterprises and universities. After the preliminary contest, only 12 teams in the university category from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jilin University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and other universities were selected for the final. In the final, each team gave a presentation to introduce their case, and then experts and judges graded online. Two teams of Jilin University respectively won the grand prize and first prize in the university category for their excellent performance. Since the inception of the Competition, JLU students have won prizes many times, which is closely attributed to the unique discipline development and talent training system of Industrial Engineering at JLU. These achievements also showed that the competence of industrial engineering students cultivated by JLU is highly recognized by peers across the country.
